The customer is a worldwide market leader in the field of industrial productivity solutions. The most important place of business in the Benelux can be found in Wilrijk; the location of the international headquarters of the compressors division and a large production unit. The production and assembly of vacuum pumps and compressors can be found here. This is done in an assembly line where a unique part is installed at each stop. The weight of the pumps and compressors ranges between 500 kg and 2.5 tons.
Chain conveyors were used in the original compressors and vacuum pumps assembly line. However, this did not offer the flexibility the customer wanted. The customer wanted to be able to assemble different types of compressors and vacuum pumps in one assembly line, and to be able to lengthen or shorten production lines with little effort. Furthermore, the work platform needed to be brought to a more acceptable level so that workers could work on the line ergonomically and within Health and Safety guidelines.
The WEWO Europe engineers developed a solution with AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles). These AGVs replaced the chain conveyors in the assembly line. In addition, a special low platform with a height of 225 mm was developed. The height of the work top can be adjusted up to 800 mm. During this project, ergonomics, effectiveness and continuity were the core requirements. With a load capacity of 2,000 kg, this line tracking AGV solution fully meets the requirements.
Thanks to the use of AGVs, employees can now work in the compressors and vacuum pumps assembly line within the Health and Safety guidelines. Furthermore, flexibility for the future is ensured by the application of magnetic field lines. This not only increases the efficiency of the company, but also the comfort and job satisfaction of employees.
